Xwiwxwyus (kwik-wi-us)/Winter Cove Trail (GINPR) • Last hiked by RP: January 2026 • Loop • EASY • MAP • Trailhead Coordinates 48.80945, -123.18873 • 1.5 km (approx. .9 mi) along gravel/earth trail and boardwalks • 30 mins • Highest Elevation: 17 m/56 ft; Lowest Elevation: Sea level • Large parking lot at the end of Church Bay Road, 5.3 km from ferry terminal • Amenities: Information board, trail map signs, interpretive signs, boat ramp/dock, limited beach access, bike racks, resting benches, picnic tables, pit toilets • Birders: 143 species since 1973 (eBird) • Highlights/Notes: Spendid view of Boat Passage, sea lion vocalizations (seasonal), salt water marshes, in-season wildflower array • Best time of year: Anytime, but winter and spring stand out.

Southern Gulf Islands viewpoint and sightings of feral goats; dogs MUST BE leashed or left at home (read Have you seen Saturna Island’s Billy Goat Gang? • Best time of year: Anytime the sky is clear.
East Point Whale Trail/East Point Regional Park (GINPR/CRD) • Last hiked by RP: January 2026 • Loop • EASY • MAP • Trailhead Coordinates: 48.78300, -123.04654 • 1.45 km (approx. .9 mi) • 30-45 mins • Highest Elevation: 27 m/89 ft; Lowest Elevation: Sea level • Parking at end of Tumbo Channel Road, 15.4 km from ferry terminal • Amenities: Information boards, numerous interpretive signs, trail map signs, bike rack, resting benches, picnic tables, beach access, pit toilets, seasonal museum • Birders: 162 species since 1989 (eBird) • Highlights/Notes: Historic fog alarm building (home of the Saturna Heritage Centre/summer seasonal), smoothed and carved sandstone rock formations and tidal pools, hand-crank W̱SÁNEĆ and whale education tool (auditory), prime Bigg’s and SRKW orca, Humpback, and sea lion (seasonal) viewing, home base of SIMRES (Saturna Island Marine Research & Education Society) • Best time of year: Great anytime, but especially good on a calm, clear day for the 270-degree view, including the white peak of Mount Baker.
Lyall Creek (GINPR) • Last hiked by RP: January 2026 • Out & Back • STRENUOUS • Trailhead Coordinates: 48.78993, -123.16246 • 1.8 km (approx. 1.1 mi) • 45 mins • Highest Elevation: 65 m/213 ft (Gain: 62 m/approx. 203 ft) • Parking for one or two vehicles just off Narvaez Bay Road, 3 km from ferry terminal • Amenities: Trail map and caution signs, resting bench • Highlights/Notes: Seasonal waterfall and viewing bench (10 min descent that includes a 47-step staircase), large Western redcedar trees, Saturna Island Cemetery across from the trailhead • Best time of year: During the wet winter months to see the waterfall, worth every slippery step (lots double-back from here to Narvaez Bay Road).
Monarch Head-Narvaez Bay Trails (GINPR) • Last hiked by RP: January 2026 • Loop • MODERATE • MAP • Trailhead at the end of Narvaez Bay Road • Trailhead Coordinates 48.77215, -123.09488 • 5 km (approx. 3 mi) • 1.5-2 hrs • Highest Elevation (Monarch Head Viewpoint): 63 m/207 ft; Lowest Elevation: Sea level • Road parking for a half-dozen vehicles • Amenities: Signboards/interpretive signs, trail map signs, bike racks, picnic tables, camping (seven walk-in/paddle-in backcountry sites, fruit picking in-season, pit toilets at campground • Birders (Narvaez Bay): 105 species since 2013 (eBird) • Highlights/Notes: Summit viewpoint looking down at Monarch Head, narrow shoreline trail from the campground to Echo Bay Point, and fruit picking next to the Narvaez Bay overflow camping area • Best time of year: September/early October, when the fruit is ripe.
Taylor Point Historic Trail (GINPR) • Last hiked by RP: June 2025 • Out & Back • STRENUOUS (distance) • MAP • Trailhead gate at east end of Trueworthy Road • Trailhead Coordinates 48.77086, -123.18223 • 9 km (approx. 5.6 mi) • 3 hrs • Highest Elevation: 133 m/436 ft (Gain: 128 m/approx. 420 ft) • Parking along Trueworthy Road • Amenities: None • Highlights/Notes: Remote SGI location, feral goats, spectacular southwest views, Taylor Point ruins and sand/driftwood beach; the trail isn’t as well-maintained as when Parks Canada included it as part of the GINPR trail system (look for/follow orange, pink, and blue trail flagging ribbons) • Best time of year: Anytime, but best when nearby Sage Hayward Vineyards’s bistro/tasting room is open.
